Set in a magnificent Georgian building, the Liverpool School of English is a large, independent school which, like the city of Liverpool, is proud of its welcoming atmosphere. Facilities include 26 fully equipped classrooms, most of which have interactive whiteboards, a common room, 2 study centres, a café with free Wi-Fi access, a fully stocked library with books, CDs and DVDs and a lovely garden with a patio area.
LSE has provided language teacher training since 1999. The school’s teacher trainers are all DELTA/Masters qualified and practising teachers, up to date with the latest developments in language teaching. As a busy language school, LSE has extensive experience with students from all over the world.
The school is located near the centre of the city, close to two train stations and universities such as Liverpool John Moores. The famous UNESCO world heritage waterfront of the River Mersey is a short walk away with cafes, restaurants and free museums including Tate Liverpool.

Trinity College London Certificate TESOL
The Trinity College London Certificate TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is a highly respected qualification, validated by Trinity College London and recognised by the British Council. It considered, alongside the Cambridge CELTA, the most respected initial qualification for teachers of English as a foreign language.
Course duration: 4 weeks
Class times: 09:00-17:00 (timetable may vary)
Lessons per week: 45 hours per week
Maximum class size: 12 students
Minimum age: 18
Language requirement: C1/C2 (non-native speakers: C2 Proficiency, IELTS 7 or TOEFL 6)
Cambridge TKT (Teacher Knowledge Test)
This course, updated annually to ensure the latest methodology, prepares teachers with English as a second language for the respected Cambridge TKT exam. Bringing together English teachers from around the world for discussion and reflection, it offers a chance for a fresh approach to teaching. The course is divided into three modules:
Module 1 – Language and background to language learning and teaching
Module 2 – Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching
Module 3 – Managing the teaching and learning process
At the end of the TKT course you’ll receive a recognised international teaching certificate from the Cambridge ESOL examinations board.

Teacher Development with CLIL
If you want to teach English as a second language or to deliver specialist subjects such as law or biology via the medium of English in your home country then the Teacher Development with Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) course is a great option for you.
The course covers essential components of teaching as well as CLIL-specific topics, including teaching target structures through CLIL, CLIL and lesson planning, materials design and adaptation, and subject-based vocabulary teaching.
On the last day of the course, you have the opportunity to take The University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) CLIL module.

Host family
One of the best ways to immerse yourself in English culture is to stay with a host family. This will encourage you to practise your English daily outside the classroom in a relaxed, motivating environment. Host families are carefully selected by the school and generally live around 20-30 minutes from the language school by public transport. You will stay in a single room with half-board.
The Arch residence (from 18 years)
Located in the Liverpool city centre, 10 minutes’ walk from the language school, this residence perfectly combines the old with the new, offering brand new facilities in a stunning 19th-century building. You will stay in a stylish single room fitted with a desk and storage space. The kitchen facilities are shared with the other residents. On the ground floor, relax in the bright lounge area with its flat-screen TV or play a game of table football or snooker with your flatmates from all over the world. A laundry room is available on-site and you can enjoy free Wi-Fi throughout the residence.

The Lantern residence
Located in the centre of Liverpool, only a 2-minute walk from the language school, this residence is the perfect option if you want to be independent while staying social. Your ensuite single room will feature a desk, a wardrobe, a kitchenette, free bed linen and towels, and free Wi-Fi. The common areas – which are cleaned periodically – include a gym, a cinema room and a TV lounge, where you’ll be able to meet the other international students. The staff is available 24/7 and coin-operated laundry facilities are also at your disposal.
Hope Street apartments
These chic Liverpool student apartments are within walking distance of the hipster Baltic Triangle neighbourhood, the vibrant Albert Dock, the main train stations and Mathew Street, famous for its nightlife. Stay in a posh studio apartment (single or double) complete with a kitchenette, private bathroom, TV, free bed linens and towels and free Wi-Fi. Take advantage of perks like an onsite gym, a sunny terrace, laundry facilities, a cinema room and a lounge, and when it’s time to go to class, the language school is only 6 minutes away on foot!
Deen House is a fantastic new deluxe property which is immediately next door to the school in the heart of the University District in the city centre. It is close to many cafés and it is only a short walk into the city centre for shopping and socialising. There is a supermarket 1 minute away. You will share your flat with other students from the language school.

Liverpool has something for everyone. The UNESCO-listed waterfront is home to the beautiful Albert Dock, as well as some of the UK’s greatest museums including Tate Liverpool, The Walker Art Gallery, Sudley House and the International Slavery Museum. Music fans are extremely well catered for in the hometown of the Beatles: the area around Mathew Street is a magnet for local and international students, while the city centre is very lively at night. In the beautiful countryside surrounding Liverpool, you can also enjoy some of Britain’s finest golf courses and spectacular beaches looking out over the Irish Sea.
