Watch the world’s greatest tennis players battle it out in the heat of the Australian summer. This is one of the four annual “majors” and an event not to be missed.
26th January 2019: Australia Day
Celebrating the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships at Port Jackson, New South Wales, this is a huge national party. Many indigenous Australians prefer to call it “Invasion Day”.

Nothing can quite prepare you for the sound of a F1 car in real life! The season opener in Melbourne has a unique energy, as the teams try and figure each other out.
25th April 2019: ANZAC Day
Originally established to honor Australians and New Zealanders who fought in Gallipoli against the Ottomans in WW1, nowadays it is a day to remember all those who have fought in war.
10th June 2019: Queen’s official Birthday
Honoring the Queen’s Birthday (Victoria-wide public holiday) since 1748. This is celebrated worldwide by some Commonwealth realms.
22nd August – 24th August 2019: Melbourne White Night
Inspired by the festival in St Petersburg, Russia, Melbourne’s White Night celebrations bring hundreds of thousands of people to the streets until long after bedtime. Buildings are illuminated, there’s live music and generally lots of cool stuff happening.
5th November 2019: Melbourne Cup
You can either watch the horses running around or turn your attention to the spectacular array of hats, dresses, handbags and suits on display. Fizzy wine and gambling encouraged.
25th December 2019: Christmas Day
Enjoy Christmas in the sun! Most workplaces have a party, and Christmas trees are put up throughout Australia. Make sure to see the caroling, which started in Melbourne as early as 1938.
