22nd February – 24th March 2019: Brisbane Comedy Festival
Brisbane is a city that likes to laugh, and nowhere is this better observed than in their annual comedy festival. It lasts for a month, so choose your favourite comedians and make sure to get to at least one show!
8th March – 10th March 2019: Mind Body Spirit Festival
Meditation, healthy food workshops, psychics, seminars and, of course, yoga are all in store for you at this spiritual session held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre right in South Bank.
3rd May – 5th May 2019: Buddha Birthday Festival
Did you know the biggest celebration of Buddha’s birthday takes place in Brisbane? Including dancing lions, a dragon boat regatta, candlelight offerings and baby blessing ceremonies presided over by Buddhist monks, martial arts, music and more, this is a great way to learn about the Asian cultural influences in Australia.
19th May – 20th May 2019: Paniyiri Greek Festival
In celebrating Brisbane’s Greek culture, head to “Little Athens” in the West End for a festival full of Greek food, dancing, music and more. This is a favourite with locals!
15th June 2019: Brisbane Pride and Queens Ball
Brisbane’s Pride Parade, the largest in Australia, processes along Brunswick Street from Fortitude Valley into New Farm. It’s always a guaranteed good time!
July 2019 (TBC): Queensland Film Festival
Every big city tends to have its own film festival, and Brisbane is no different. The Queensland Film Festival attracts the best of independent cinema at the ultra-hip New Farm Cinemas.
20th July – 21th July 2019: Regional Flavours
A free food and wine fest, you say? Ok, so admission is free, but you will have to pay for the tasty snacks you’ll undoubtedly want to sample at the incredible Regional Flavours food festival in the beautiful South Bank Parklands.
9th August – 18th August 2019: Ekka Royal Queensland Show
This livestock and agricultural fair is a shout-out to simpler times. Head to Ekka for horse shows, dog shows, livestock competitions, sheep dog trials, farmer challenges and even bush poetry recited by some of the most literary cowboys in the outback. This is a side of Australia you absolutely need to see!
6th September – 28th September 2019: Brisbane International Film Festival
