Alpadia Lyon - Academic Year Abroad

As the centre of French cuisine and history, Lyon is the perfect spot to spend months or even a year. With all the culture you'll soak up, you'll practically be French by the time you come home! The school's 19th-century riverside building creates an inspiring backdrop for your studies. Inside, you'll find bright classrooms, free wireless internet, a lounge area for relaxing, and an on-site café that serves as a social hub throughout the day. Place Bellecour is just around the corner, placing you at the heart of a neighbourhood packed with traditional bouchons and lively coffee houses—exactly where Lyon's students love to hang out. Every day brings fresh chances to strike up conversations in French and absorb the city's unique character.

Host family

ESL-host-family-accommodation-3

Being immersed in a country’s culture is without a doubt one of the best ways to learn the language. Living with a host family means getting to know the way of life of Lyon locals from the inside – their food and customs – while having an enriching experience. It's also your chance to practise French daily in an authentic context. Your host will be carefully selected by our partner school. Living around 20-35 minutes from the school via public transport (please note that this may be longer during busy seasons), you will stay in a single or double room with breakfast only or half-board provided.

Studio 9 (ages 18 and over)

Studio 9 Bedroom

Sometimes the best way to unwind after a long day of classes is to go back to your very own studio apartment, just 22 minutes from your school through public transport. Your room will have Wi-Fi, and will be equipped with a desk, table, chair, wardrobe, kitchen, and an ensuite bathroom. Linen is provided, but you must bring your own towel—both can be cleaned for a small fee in the onsite facilities. You will be responsible for preparing your own meals and keeping your own space clean. When you feel like socialising, there is a big lounge room where you can meet your fellow students, and a terrace to enjoy on sunny days.

Leisure

Lyon is one of the top destinations for international students in France, and when you try its legendary local food and beautiful architecture, you’ll see why! Your school will offer fun activities to help immerse you in the French language, like French film night, cheese & wine tasting, and more. Your Academic Year will offer you additional activities to help you learn more about Lyon and French culture. These activities can include a visit to the CHRD to explore the French Resistance, discover Lyon’s history and puppetry at Musée Gadagne, take a guided tour of Vieux Lyon and its traboules, and explore Roman artefacts and theatres at the Musée Gallo-Romain de Fourvière.
