ESL - Events 2019
8th February – 16th February 2019: New York Fashion Week
One of the biggest fashion weeks in the world, known as the “Big 4”, together with Paris, London and Milan. This event takes place twice a year - in February and September - and it presents international fashion collections to buyers, the press and the general public.

27th May 2019: Memorial Day Parade
This is not just a day to honor those citizens who've served the United States in times of war, with parades all over New York, but also a way to officially open the spring season (with springtime sales) and welcome the first weekend where the beaches are officially open to the public.
14th June 2019: Museum Mile Festival
Nine museums along Fifth Avenue, including the Guggenheim and the Met, open their doors from 6pm – 9pm for free, creating a mile-long block party and visual art celebration.

22nd June 2019: Mermaid Parade
A huge parade in Coney Island, where the fancy dress is aquatic, the atmosphere is relaxed and the mermaids (and mermen, and everything inbetween) come out to play.

30th June 2019: NYC Pride Parade
Each year in June, more than a million people flock to the streets, parties and cultural events on offer during NYC Pride Week. The main events take place on Sunday and culminate with a huge march and street party, where a strong political message is delivered in flamboyant fancy dress.

4th July 2019: Independence Day Celebrations
The Declaration of the Independence was officially adopted on 4th July 1776 and has been honoured annually since. During the day, parades and barbecues celebrate all things USA, with the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island being one of the best-loved. It is broadcast live on national television.

The main evening event is the Macys Fourth of July Fireworks. The famous department store provides a legendary annual fireworks display launched from the Hudson River, on the west side of Manhattan.  Last year’s display included more than 1,500 shells per minute over almost half an hour. If you want to get a good spot in the riverside viewing galleries, you should arrive by 5pm at the latest as it gets busy!
July – August 2019: Shakespeare in the Park
Large-scale productions of works by William Shakespeare are presented for free at the open-air Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The productions often feature some of the most talented and popular actors.

26th August – 8th September 2019: US Open Tennis Tournament at Flushing Meadows
One of the four annual “major” tennis tournaments, the US Open at Flushing Meadows brings the world’s top tennis players together to battle for one of the biggest prizes in the sport.
2nd September 2019: Labor Day
Schools, banks and post offices close on Labor Day as New Yorkers flood onto the streets to celebrate the hard work of the American people. The second Saturday in September sees a huge parade take place starting at 44th Street at 10am, heading along 5th Avenue until 72nd Street.
The Brooklyn West Indian Carnival takes place on Labor Day itself, attracting millions of participants to Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

12 September – 22 September 2019: Feast of San Gennaro
This 11-day Italian festival draws nearly 1 million visitors to Little Italy each to celebrate Italian-American culture with live music, parades, food vendors and a competitive cannoli-eating competition.

First week of December 2019: Christmas Tree Lighting
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is a worldwide symbol of the holidays in New York City. Thousands crowd the sidewalks for the lighting event and millions watch it live across the globe through the TV. Not only is this one of the best NYC events in December, but there are also tons of festive things to do around the landmark.
