My language stay in Portsmouth lived up to my expectations! My family was very welcoming and caring, but at the same time they let me enjoy my independence. The city is full of energy, with its coast and green areas, its eventful history and buzzing nightlife. There are lots of pubs and most of them offer live music. The school was really good: the location is ideal, teachers and staff are excellent and classes and activities are amazing. Even though it was only 4 weeks, I met many people from around the world and I made some good friends. My English improved a lot! I would like to do my master degree in the UK.

I am very happy with the teaching content as a student and a teacher myself.

As for the city and its surroundings, I think that it is perfect for short and long stays as the city is small and rich in history. I can’t say much about its nightlife as I prefer to concentrate on the language side of things… the reason for my stay is more important than anything else.

The teachers seemed expert in their subject (which you would expect from such a reputable school) and pedagogically the exercise in style was really effective. During the course I changed my course as I thought the One to One Programme was better suited to my own way of learning; it was easy to change courses and the cost wasn’t astronomical.

As for other things like the host family, I think that it depends on personal taste. What is essential is to appreciate the moment as it happens without asking oneself existential questions.

Despite a relatively long trip from Stansted to Portsmouth (4 hours), it was very important for me to get immediately involved with the English people and their language (asking for information, bus tickets).

I’m planning to go back to Portsmouth next year, but not in a host family, in an apartment this time.

I spent a great holiday in Portsmouth. The city has many advantages and it’s the perfect starting point if you want to visit other cities. And you can also spend some time at the beach! It was a very interesting experience because I met so many people from all over the world, and with them I discovered a new country. The school offers an appealing leisure programme and the classes are very interesting thanks to the teachers.

The school offers a varied program of leisure activities each week. During the week, nights out at the pub, movies or theatre and museum visits and sports (from sailing to bowling, football and golf) are all popular. On Saturdays, students can take excursions to Bath, Salisbury and Stonehenge, the Isle of Whight or London. It’s an ideal way to meet students from the other classes and to discover Portsmouth and its surrounding region with your new friends.
