The language school in Cartagena is ideally located in the historic centre, near Trinidad Square, in a beautiful colonial-style building. In the 6 bright classrooms, motivating professors teach Spanish with innovative methods. You will study in a group of 8 people maximum in order to facilitate a constant, stimulating language exchange. Common spaces include a rooftop terrace with breathtaking views, another terrace with a pergola (perfect for dance classes, offered by the school), and a swimming pool, where you will be able to meet the other international students for a refreshing break. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the whole building. Enjoy the friendly, relaxed environment and develop your Spanish skills!

Do you think you've made progress?
« Oui.

Nueva Lengua, Cartagena
Duration: 16 weeks

I have been living in Cartagena and studying Spanish for 3 weeks. I am happy to be able to spend time in this beautiful city. Every day, I go to the school to learn Spanish. I’ve significantly improved my language skills as I put everything I learn in class into practise with my friends and at home. My classmates are friendly and interesting. The teacher is intelligent and very nice, just like the other students. We usually go out together to party and make the most of Cartagena. Last week, we visited white sandy beaches, I loved it. Now I am a bit blue because some of my friends had to go back home, their stay was quite short. As for me, I’m staying here for another two or three months.

Nueva Lengua, Cartagena
Duration: 4 weeks

It had been a few years since I wanted to go to Colombia and combining this project with a language stay seemed to be the best idea. I chose Cartagena because I wanted to go on holiday and the sea had to be part of the setting! When I arrived at the Nueva Lengua school I received a warm welcome and I was treated accordingly during my whole stay. The classes were very interesting, but also very entertaining and gripping. With the intensive course, you enjoy the first lesson best, as only one or two students attended most of the time. During my stay, I considerably improved my Spanish skills, due also to the fact that I lived with a very nice host family! In the afternoon, we had the choice between at least 3 various activities in which all the students participated – big fun guaranteed! The city of Cartagena offers a lot of attractions and it is the ideal point of departure for excursions on the weekend I can only warmly recommend the school and the city of Cartagena but one has to be aware that we are on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and that life here is filled with comfortable tranquillity.

Nueva Lengua, Cartagena
Duration: 8 weeks

When I arrived in Cartagena, I felt lost and lonely. I therefore recommend all those who go on a linguistic stay to organise an airport transfer. Yet, I felt right away at home when I arrived in my host family. The mum of my host family is an extraordinary woman and I was very surprised to even find a private bathroom, only for me! The first day at school was very exciting and a bit chaotic, but there was a big improvement in the organisation during the first 8 weeks. The Nueva Lengua school was a good choice as it has constantly improved the critical points to develop in the right direction. The teachers are super qualified and help the students, in extracurricular areas as well. I strongly recommend going on a language trip to Cartagena, because it is a very safe destination with an excellent leisure offer. Women should nonetheless be wary of the charming Latinos who tend to exaggerate everything. In conclusion I can say that this was a wonderful experience for me and that I will do my next language stay with ESL again, the service, the price and the quality were perfect.

Discovering Cartagena and its surroundings during the outings planned by our partner school is an absolute must. Don’t miss the tour of the historic city, its ramparts, alleyways and other places of interest. As it is right beside the sea, you will also be able to enjoy its magnificent beaches, like those of the Corales del Rosario National Park and the Rosario Islands, which allow you to dive in and discover truly beautiful marine fauna. For a different type of excursion, you will be invited to slosh about in the mud baths of the Totumo Volcano at an altitude of only 30 metres above sea level! Cartagena and its surroundings are not to be missed.
