Canada is an incredible destination! And Vancouver has fully satisfied my expectations, both from the educational and personal point of view. I practiced my language skills, but I also enjoyed the amazing nightlife, went on unique excursions and made lasting friendships. A little downside: the amount of French people in the school doesn’t allow the full immersion, but it’s not a big deal…it was actually reassuring sometimes! In the residence, the shared kitchen is a nice place to spend time. Bedrooms are pretty small but very nice and confortable, even on the long term. There is a bike storage, a lounge and lots of students who really brightened up my stay. I highly recommend it!

Van, as they call it here, is absolutely beautiful! My host family is really nice, I fitted in very quickly at school and the people I met were mostly Canadian! I am very satisfied with the service provided by ESL and with the professional and efficient support they gave me before my departure and during all the administrative steps of my enrolment.

I went to Canada as my dream was to go to the American continent. I chose ILSC school because the options were very diverse and I didn’t regret that choice. I spent 1 month in Vancouver and 2 weeks in Montreal in the same school. The good thing is that your file follows you. Moreover, the teachers are very competent and interesting, which makes the classes more attractive. As far as the activities are concerned, it was just AWESOME! I encourage all those who want to go to Canada to go to that school and to visit this beautiful country and culture.

The country, the city and most of all the people are a thousand times better than what I expected! On my way to Canada, at a stop over in London I asked myself: “What am I doing here? But when I landed in Vancouver my doubts had disappeared. The teachings were very entertaining. The teachers were nice and helpful and after a week I had already found new friends. To sum it up: I fell in love with this country and I wish I would never go back!

ILSC offers a huge range of courses in many different areas, so every student should find the right course to make their language experience a success. The teachers show real interest in the students’ progress and offer them adapted courses. My host family is very friendly and I have felt at home from the very first day. The activities offered by the school are varied and quite affordable.

What I liked about the programme is that we discussed a variety of topics in class and went on fieldtrips to see things with our own eyes. In class, we talked about ecosystems, the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Project, the protection of the First Nations land and about some important international agreements like the Montreal protocol. After class, we took part in excursions, including to a First Nations protest, to the Burns Bog and to a recycling station. Talking to the other students in the programme allowed me to learn a lot about what is going on in their home countries and I realised what could be done to protect our environment.

I particularly liked the way we discussed topics, through debates. We explored various opinions about sustainable development and covered current projects like the pipeline that runs from Alberta to British Colombia and the Rio, Montreal and Kyoto protocols. We also went on a fieldtrip to see the Burns Bog and we talked with some representatives of the “First Nations", who have been living in the area for thousands of years. I feel the course content enhanced my environmental knowledge and consciousness because I talked to other students and heard their opinions about environmental issues, about what’s right and what’s not because there are problems in their countries. We shared information too.

The theme of the programme was very interesting. We talked about topics that are so important and learnt so many things everyday. For example, we talked about the new oil pipeline from Alberta to BC, the Kyoto, Rio and Montreal protocols, the various ecosystems, etc. We also left the classroom in order to see what Vancouver has to offer regarding sustainability and the environment. We went to a First Nations demonstration, it was very interesting. A woman told us everything about it: amazing! We also visited the Burns Bog Delta Nature Reserve because it has a special ecosystem. In class, we talked about current events, which are happening at the moment, and discussed how they are perceived around the world. So every student contributed to the debate. It was my first time there and I loved it!

The school is very well organised and knows how to manage such a big amount of students. The three buildings where the courses take place are gathered in the centre of Vancouver. They can be easily reached by Skytrain. I like the dividing up in 4-week modules a lot. The school offers a wide choice of varied classes for different levels. In case of incompatibility, it is very easy to change class very quickly. All the teachers are qualified and create a relaxed atmosphere during the classes. Depending on the choice of classes, the lessons are very strict or rather relaxed. Students from all around the world go to ILSC. Very strict rules of “English only” are at the source of English conversations in the centre’s building. Most teachers are eager not to put students from the same country next to each other. The accommodation met my expectations. I was happy to live in the city centre rather than in a host family in the suburbs. Thanks to my accommodation at the hotel, I could enjoy half price at the gym. With its activity programme, the school offers excursions for all on weekdays. Through daily activities or several-day excursions, you can easily meet other students. Prices are justified.

I spent 3 weeks in this wonderful country. I chose Vancouver because it’s a beautiful city on the ocean, surrounded by mountains – it’s breathtaking! The school was ILSC, in the centre of Vancouver. I made new international friends and we had such a good time together! The atmosphere was really nice and Canadians are cool and open.

I also attended the TOEFL preparation course, to get ready for the exam and obtain a good result. Teachers are lovely and make you feel confortable no matter what your level is.

The school offers interesting leisure activities such as hockey matches, excursions to Victoria, Seattle or the Rockies. Thanks to these activities, you will enjoy your trip as much as possible. My experience was definitely a success!

The school, ISLC, was great; there were so many course options that it was impossible to get bored, and teachers were good at making lessons fun and interesting. In my free time, I visited Vancouver with my new friends; there were plenty of things to do and to discover. My 16 weeks in Vancouver were really amazing and rewarding. Thank you ESL, for the useful advice and the excellent organization.

I spent 6 wonderful months in Vancouver and I will go back as soon as I can! I started my stay with a 3-month intensive course. Then, the school organized an interview with an architect firm that was looking for an intern. I got the position and spent there the last 3 months of my stay, enjoying the Canadian lifestyle and practicing my English all day. I loved working in the company and now my English is very fluent.

It's easy to make some friends. The rule that students can't speak in another language than english is good! Everything is well, I really enjoy ILSC. Would I recommend the school to my friends? ILSC Vancouver is a fantastic school. Teachers are amazing, plenty of activities are organized every day and you meet people all the time. Vancouver … even in the winter, the town is truly beautiful! Canadians are open-minded and friendly. I was lucky to have a lovely host family who did everything they could to make me feel at home in Canada. Best homestay in Vancouver! My internship was a unique experience. My colleagues were great and helped me to improve my English and the job was interesting… In addition to that, I took pleasure in exploring Vancouver Island, discovering the art of native people and snowboarding in Whistler… it was simply unique!

I would like to give a BIG BIG up to ESL! Everything worked out perfectly. The organisation of my language course and my host family placement were a great success. I felt right at home. My course in Vancouver was amazing! Too bad time passes by so quickly... ILSC is an excellent school and I can only recommend it. The English teachers are brilliant at what they do. The two-day Thanksgiving holiday I spent with my host family and the Halloween party at the school were particularly interesting. I will definitely book another course at ILSC Vancouver through ESL. Vancouver is a fascinating city, with the mountains and the beach nearby, but you also get that big city edge. Conclusion: I have no words to describe my stay in Canada and I can’t thank the ESL agency in Munich enough for that.

One of the reasons I chose Vancouver was hockey. Canada is one of the best countries at hockey all around the world. Everybody recommended me to come to Canada, so I chose Vancouver. Regarding the weather, Vancouver is better than any other part of the country.

I didn't know anything about the different schools in the City, so Stefania told me about the ILSC option and I booked my course at the office of Locarno.

Since I've arrived, I've been attending the communication course and I recommend it because teachers are great and they know how to teach while you socialize with the other students. In the afternoon I'm taking the grammar course (it's a little more complicated).

The activities I prefer are always related to Hockey, so I went to one game and the guided visit of the stadium.

I choose Vancouver because a friend of mine recommended it to me. Vancouver is similar to my home country Switzerland, close to the water, in this case the sea, and also the mountains. There are many activities to do related with the nature, like hiking or walking. Vancouver has a good location to travel to other parts of Canada and the USA.

I like ILSC because of its individual programs. You can focus on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and other options. The school has also a lot of different courses; humanities, marketing, management, etc. The only piece of advice I can give you is : do not come here thinking only about one option because sometimes all of the options are not available, but you still have many choices.

People who, like me, have already visited Vancouver several times know there is no better place for a 12-week English course. I contacted the ESL agency in St Gallen rather spontaneously. They presented the various options available to me in a simple and clear way and I finally decided to take the Cambridge Advanced English certificate. But enough said about classes! Vancouver offers an impressive array of cultural attractions and many opportunities to widen your horizons. You can spend the whole day skiing or surfing. Being in such a central location, you can easily arrange trips to the USA and to the north of British Colombia. There’s a varied range of activities on offer in Vancouver and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better destination for my language course abroad.

I finally found an organisation that teaches languages effectively and that is not afraid of using innovative teaching methods: the school of my dreams! An average of 13 students per class, fun yet rigorous learning: this is possible! I was really surprised to see that the teachers were open-minded, available and professional! More than a student /teacher relationship, there was a real exchange in the classroom.

I’m Lorraine Grandjean from Switzerland, and I’ve been in Vancouver for 3 months. I’m in a FCE master class, to prepare the FCE test. We practice everything including grammar, vocabulary, listening, writing and reading. We work with FCE preparation material and do exercises, which are similar to real section in the test. Sometimes i have different types of writing assignments for homework as well as reading assignments. Everything in this class is done to succeed in the test, so we practice the same skills many times to be prepared for the test. I learnt a lot of new words, and some grammar points that I didn’t know before.

My speaking has become better too, because I have to speak English all the time with everyone. I’m better at listening now as well, and I’m able to understand more all the different accents, whether it may be British, Canadian or American. My future plan, is at first, to write the FCE test, and then, maybe in December, I’ll pass the CAE test in Switzerland. I’m still in high school, but I might need these tests to study abroad or work in an international company.

ILSC is a very good school, because I am able to meet a lot of people from different countries, and so I’m able to learn not only a language, but new cultures too! The fact that all students must speak English in the buildings is very good because it helps everyone to improve faster by speaking English a lot.

The staff and the teachers are nice and friendly, so it’s easier to study! Moreover, the activities which are provided are really great, so you can discover Vancouver while you’re studying, I’ve appreciated that, and I’d also recommend this school, because it’s in a beautiful city surrounded by the mountains and the ocean, and the Canadians are very friendly.

ILSC is a big school, and I found it very interesting because it offers you a lot of possibilities of courses and activities as I said before.

Going to Canada, what’s more to Vancouver, had been my dream since I was a little girl… My stay showed me that it was worth waiting for! An amazing and memorable experience throughout 3 seasons… late summer, autumn, early winter! The colours and landscapes were gorgeous, the city was magical and the population, exceptional. My host family was just amazing and unique and took me to discover its country and culture in the best way possible. The school was really good and offered many extracurricular activities, and the teachers were excellent. Thanks to its location, we had the opportunity to go skiing in Whistler, to go to the Rockies, to visit Vancouver Island and to go to the USA on a shopping trip. I recommend this city to everyone since you will make beautiful encounters and have the time of your life!
