In this section, you’ll learn about the available job opportunities for students during language stays. Take advantage of your time abroad to put your language skills to use in a practical setting and earn some extra money while doing it! Having ample time is one of the main benefits of a long-term gap year programme – from time to explore the city to time to socialise, and even to integrate further into the community and meet locals by getting a job.
Jobs in Europe
Students coming from the European Union (Switzerland included) are permitted to combine work with their language studies. As such, cities like Berlin, Barcelona, Galway, Rome and Brighton are fantastic places to find a job compatible with your studies thanks to their size and dynamic environment. This will also allow you to extend the length of your stay. For support and advice on your job search, our partner schools will be happy to help. We also have a great notice board of job postings from current as well as former students with their recommendations and tips – this is an invaluable resource!
At our partner schools in Brighton, Dublin, Galway, Lindau, London and Oxford, we have created a “Job Club” due to the high volume of jobs available to students in these cities. This allows the student population to connect with the area’s job market with support from the school and advice from professionals and former students to help you find the job that fits you best. Taking working hours into account, the best type of course would be the standard, as it allows you more time to work and/or study on your own. It’s also the perfect reason to extend your language stay after completing your course!

Jobs in Australia and New Zealand
Working Holiday Visa
Across the globe just under the Tropic of Capricorn, Australia and New Zealand offer the option of a “Working Holiday Visa” so you can combine work, studies and holidays. During your first few weeks, you can get acclimated to your new surroundings and reinforce your level of English with courses from 2-16 weeks in Australia or 2-12 weeks in New Zealand. Afterwards, you can become a bit more adventurous and spend your time working to earn some more money to spend on travelling throughout these exotic destinations!

The Australian Working Holiday Visa is an option for students coming from Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
New Zealand
The New Zealand Working Holiday Visa is an option for students coming from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Poland, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Uruguay and the USA.
Student Visa
Students may also work in both Australia and New Zealand with a student visa. This is the perfect way to integrate in the community while earning some spending money at the same time.
Australia
With a student visa in Australia, the maximum number of working hours while the course is in session is 40 hours per fortnight, which passes to unlimited after the course has finalised.
New Zealand
Since January 2014, students taking a language course of 14 weeks or more may work part-time in New Zealand (maximum 20 hours per week), and full-time for up to 4 weeks, typically after the course has finalised.
Students find the most job opportunities in the following areas: hotels, restaurants, services, administration, flyer distribution, transport, tourism, travel, handling materials, bars, clubs, casinos, farm work and fruit picking, etc. There are plenty of opportunities based on your level of English and the time of year.
