  • Leisure
The language skills you develop in the classroom during a language study trip are only one part of the experience. During your free time you will have plenty of opportunities to practice the language in a variety of fun and interesting situations.

One of the things we consider very important when choosing partner schools to work with is the variety of leisure activities offered. This is because the things you do during your free time are not only important for your enjoyment of the experience but are also hugely beneficial for your language skills.

The cultural and sporting activities that come with a language study trip help to build a relaxing and motivational atmosphere in which it is easy to make friends with other students while practising the language.

Cultural activities

From the Great Wall of China to the great restaurants of Tokyo, from the shopping temples of Paris to the Aztec temples of Cholula, from the vibrant swirl of colours at Carnival in Salvador de Bahia to the vibrant swirling colours of the Kandinsky room at the Hermitage, the world is a wonderful place. For some, visiting the misty ruins of Machu Picchu in the early morning is a spiritual experience. For others, the halls of the Musée du Louvre have a similar effect.

You can take it easy with a strong coffee at a Viennese cafe or explore the slopes where the coffee beans grow in Costa Rica. Gawp at the pearls in Antwerp jewellers’ windows or try and find your own in the depths of the Indian Ocean. One thing is for sure; these experiences will help you understand other, essential dimensions of the language you are learning.

Sports

You’re an enthusiastic surfer, passionate golfer or ice hockey fanatic? With a language study trip, you can combine study with the chance practise your sport or watch international sporting events live! Savour a football match at the Camp Nou or Bombonera. Take it easy at the surfing championships in Biarritz or strap in for the Grand Prix in Belgium. Get your cowbells out for FIS World Cup skiing events in the Swiss Alps or catch an ice hockey match in Montreal. Get your PADI diving qualification in Thailand, work on your carving turns in Les Diablerets, try and get your head around eusko pilota in San Sebastian... the choice is yours!
